Aboriginal Motifs

Functions and Philosophies
Confidentiality
The person doing the art form must discuss any restrictions with the group before starting. Some people may not want their name written and that must be respected. No names or photographs of deceased Indigenous people are allowed to be on show, the family members are to be notified if you would like permission to use either a name or a photograph. If sacred or secret material is used you are in breech of the Indigenous law.

Consent
Consent is needed before reproducing any Indigenous artwork or designs.
It is most effective when both groups are aware of how each culture views issues, the difference between cultures, can smooth out cultural misunderstandings and if they find the right people to consult with. Time must be given for consultation and can sometimes take several meetings, if the outcome is "no" then it shouldn't be taken personally as other factors have been considered to make that decision.

Moral rights and Issues
All artwork must be original indigenous works, produced by Indigenous people as to them it is important and respectful.
